ThreatAdvice’s Jason Asbury Appointed by Governor Ivey to State of Alabama Commission to Explore Artificial Intelligence

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, Sept. 16, 2019 –Jason Asbury who heads NXTsoft’s ThreatAdvice Cyber Security Solutions has been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama Commission on Artificial Intelligence and Associated Technologies, which will study the growth of artificial intelligence in the state, its potential uses and its effect on quality of life. The commission will advise Ivey and the legislature on the growth of AI technologies in Alabama and recommend policy changes to encourage technology growth in the state.

 

The bill, sponsored by state senator Jabo Waggoner, makes Alabama one of the first states in the nation to establish a state-focused commission on AI.

The commission was recently expanded beyond its original 18 members.  Originally, ten members were appointed by Governor Ivey, two members were appointed by Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth, two members of the House of Representatives were appointed by Speaker Mac McCutcheon, and two members of the state senate were appointed Senate President Del Marsh. The secretary of commerce and secretary of information technology hold seats on the Commission. During the first two meetings, the Commission voted to add six additional members, at which time ThreatAdvice Cybersecurity Solutions President Jason Asbury was nominated and appointed.
